Cynthia
Salgado was born and raised in
California. She trained at the Juilliard School,
receiving the Princess Grace Scholarship in 2004
and graduating with a BFA in dance in 2005. Since
then she has been working as a freelance artist,
performing and assisting for choreographers Aszure
Barton and Mia Michaels. Her projects have included
the Baryshnikov 2007 tour of “Hell’s
Kitchen Dance”, “Earth; Healing The
Rift” project in Kenya, Cirque du Soleil’s
“Delirium”, a tour with Anna Vissi,
a well-known artist in Greece, and a residency
at the Baryshnikov Arts Center. Cynthia also teaches
and
choreographs for youth countrywide. In 2002, she
and her husband began an outreach program through
Juilliard that has become a not-for-profit organization
called Artists Striving To End Poverty (ASTEP).
ASTEP has brought her to Homestead, Florida, Port
Elizabeth, South Africa, and to the Shanti Bhavan
School outside of Bangalore, India to teach the
arts to children in need. Cynthia is honored to
be a part of Aszure & Artists.
